The City of North Myrtle Beach's Public Information Officer (PIO) is responsible for managing the City’s official website and social media platforms. This department produces e-newsletters, informational brochures, and issues news releases to keep the community informed. As the Public Relations branch of the City, this Department supports City Administration and other departments by conveying the City’s goals, initiatives, and activities to residents and visitors. Furthermore, this Department serves as the primary contact for Media Relations, offering assistance and ensuring accurate coverage of news stories related to North Myrtle Beach.

FOIA Requests

To submit a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Request, visit the FOIA Request online portal.

Pursuant to the South Carolina Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), the City of North Myrtle Beach will provide copies of public records in its possession, unless the records are exempt from disclosure under S.C. Code of Laws §30-4-40 or other applicable law. 

Upon receipt of a written request for records under FOIA, the City will determine if the records are available. The City will notify the requestor of this determination in writing within ten (10) business days for records less than two (2) years old, or within twenty (20) business days for records more than two (2) years old. Business days do not include Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays.

Pursuant to S.C. Code of Laws §30-4-30(B), fulfillment of FOIA Requests is subject to fees for search, retrieval, and redaction, as well as fees for providing paper copies of documents and electronic media. 

FOIA Request Fees

The City shall charge twenty-five ($0.25) cents for black and white copies, thirty-five ($0.35) cents for color copies, and $2.00 for documents larger than 8 ½’’ x 14’’ (plats, maps, etc.), per copied page for FOIA requests if the copies exceed ten (10) pages and if the information is not readily accessible. If requested documents are placed on a USB drive, the City will charge ten ($10.00) dollars. In addition, the City shall charge the hourly rate of the lowest paid staff member that is capable of completing the search/request for staff time.
