NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- The City of North Myrtle Beach encourages residents to prepare now for any possible impacts from a developing winter storm this weekend. The City is also monitoring the preparations that need to be taken as the forecast develops.
How YOU Can Prepare:
Protect Your Home:
- Insulate exposed pipes or leave faucets dripping to prevent freezing.
- Ensure your heating system is in good working order.
- Seal drafts around windows and doors to retain heat.
Plan for Travel:
- Monitor forecasts and road conditions.
- Allow extra time for commutes and consider delaying non-essential trips if snow is present.
- Keep a winter emergency kit in your vehicle, including blankets, water, snacks, and a flashlight.
Bring Pets Indoors:
- Pets are vulnerable to extreme cold. Bring them inside where it’s warm and safe.
- Provide a warm, dry shelter with blankets if outdoor housing is unavoidable.
- Ensure pets have access to fresh, unfrozen water and plenty of food.
Stay Safe Outdoors:
- Dress in layers, wear a hat, gloves, and sturdy shoes or boots.
- Limit time outside, especially for children and pets.
- Be cautious of ice on sidewalks, driveways, and steps.
Check on Vulnerable Neighbors:
- Ensure elderly or at-risk neighbors have adequate heating, food, and supplies.
- Offer assistance with winter preparations if needed.
REMINDER:
Bridges ice first. Slow down before these bridges and avoid them at all if possible.
