Junior Lifeguard Program
NMBOR Junior Lifeguards are youth ages 9-15 who love being in and around the water. During this camp, participants will learn beach safety, First Aid and CPR, and basic water rescue skills. Every day during the camp, Junior Lifeguards will engage in fun physical challenges and participate in team activities as they learn about how to keep themselves and others safe around the ocean. The camp is taught by Beach Patrol Officers and highly trained ocean lifeguards. Junior Lifeguards will have the opportunity to shadow real lifeguards as well. Details about this year's shadowing program will be released at the beginning of camp.

Summer Camp 1 will run from June 13-July 6, and Summer Camp 2 will run from July 18-August 10th. Each camp runs for four weeks. The camp meets on the beach at Main Street in North Myrtle Beach on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30am-10:30am for every session except for one CPR training days. On these CPR training days, Jr Guards will meet at the J. Bryan Floyd Community Center from 9am-12:00pm. More information about CPR training days will be available upon registration.
Safety First
We want to make sure all participants have a safe and fun time. Participants who have been on a swim team or who have completed the Junior Lifeguard camp before do not need to do this swim test. New participants are asked to do a 50 yard, untimed swim test to ensure their proficiency in the pool. Drop in between 1-2pm at the NMB Aquatic and Fitness Center pool on these dates for your test. For Summer Camp 1, the swim test will take place on June 10th. For Summer Camp 2, the swim test will take place on July 15th.
Shadow a Real Ocean Lifeguard
Participants who complete our summer Junior Lifeguard camps are eligible to shadow real ocean lifeguards! Online registration for our summer programs will open after April 1st.
Our Junior Lifeguards are taught by highly trained lifeguards and members of North Myrtle Beach Public Safety Beach Patrol officers. Your Junior Lifeguard can have a look into what Ocean Rescue is really like by shadowing one of these lifeguards. Junior Lifeguards may begin shadowing each summer after their second week of camp. Shadow days are Saturday only. Parents/guardians are asked to bring their Junior Lifeguard to our office inside the Beach Services Warehouse located at 1024 6th Ave South at 9am on any morning they want to shadow so that we can assign them to a lifeguard. We will then hand the Jr Lifeguard a paper with the lifeguard’s name, tower number, and tower location so that you can drive them to that location. Parents/Guardians are responsible for transporting their Jr Lifeguard to and from the beach and must pick them up by 11:30am.
