Public Arts Commission

The Public Arts Commission serves in an advisory role to City Council and the Planning and Development Department on matters related to public art, cultural initiatives, and creative placemaking in North Myrtle Beach. Contact the Public Arts Commission by calling Emily Broome at 843-280-5629.

Purpose & Responsibilities

The Public Arts Commission works to enhance the character, identity, and cultural life of the community by:
  • Serving as a liaison between residents, artists, cultural organizations, City staff, and City Council
  • Administering and awarding façade improvement grants as authorized by City Council
  • Reviewing and selecting artists and proposals for public art projects
  • Encouraging opportunities for cultural development and creative placemaking
  • Supporting alignment with state and regional arts and cultural initiatives where appropriate

Membership

The Commission consists of five members appointed by City Council. Members represent a cross-section of arts and cultural stakeholders and must reside within the City limits. Members serve four-year terms and may not serve more than eight consecutive years. Membership includes:
  • At least one representative from an arts organization or arts-related business located in North Myrtle Beach
  • At least two artists or designers from different disciplines
  • Additional members from tourism, business, education, nonprofits, cultural institutions, or related fields
