The North Myrtle Beach Tree City Board chose a Live Oak at the home of Lynn Clyburn, 207 8th Avenue North, for its Tree of the Month Award for September.
Lynn preserved many trees when building the house and took special care to preserve an old Live Oak in the back yard. In order to save the tree, she built her backyard deck around it and it continues to provide plenty of shade. Now and then, she modifies the deck to accommodate the tree’s growth.
Lynn consults with a Brookgreen Gardens tree care expert to ensure the continued good health of the tree. She has also explored the option of cabling and bracing the tree with an eye toward minimizing stress on its larger branches.
The Tree City Board thanks Lynn Clyburn for her commitment to this tree and the others in her beautiful yard.

The Tree City Board began its Tree of the Month program in 2010 in order to recognize preserved trees in the city and those who care for them. The program also helps highlight the many benefits trees offer in our daily lives.
