The center of Hurricane Idalia is currently moving through Georgia; we are starting to see impacts and weather conditions will continue to deteriorate throughout the rest of the day into tomorrow morning.
POTENTIAL IMPACTS FROM HURRICANE IDALIA FOR OUR AREA INCLUDE:
Rainfall amounts expected to average 2 to 5 inches. Heavy rainfall may lead to flooding for some locations.
Tropical storm force winds expected, sustained in the range of 35-45 mph with gusts approaching 50 mph at times.
We are at risk for fast developing tornadoes. Be prepared to seek shelter if Tornado Warnings are issued for your location.
Coastal flooding of 1 to 3 feet above ground level inundation is possible, especially tonight around high tide (KING TIDE – 8:34 PM). Vulnerable low spots along the beaches or low-lying areas that flood, particularly Cherry Grove, are at the greatest risk.
Secure any loose objects, such as outdoor furniture, garbage cans, and other belongings, and move cars to higher ground.
